Issue 54 14 May 2009

This week Product Focus looks at exhaust and emissions, with a selection of exhaust systems, filtration devices and emission testing systems to help promote both legal compliance and workshop safety. We also have an update from Transport for London, below, on the progress of the Low Emission Zone since its introduction. For more information on any of the items below, click on the company logo or image.

The Low Emission Zone has been very successful in encouraging operators of the heaviest, most polluting lorries, buses and coaches to use less polluting vehicles, fit abatement equipment or re-organise their fleets. The latest figures show that 97 per cent of vehicles affected by phase one and 94 per cent affected by phase two are compliant with the emissions standards of the scheme.

The Low Emission Zone will continue to play a major role in deterring the heaviest, most individually polluting vehicles from driving in the Capital and encouraging operators and owners of non-compliant vehicles to take steps to comply with the emissions standards of the scheme. The scheme standards will rise again for these vehicles in January 2012 when vehicles affected by phases one and two will have to meet the Euro IV standard for particulate matter to continue to drive within Greater London without charge.

Breathe more easily
with EHC Teknik

Reducing exhaust fumes in the workplace is to everybody’s advantage. Vehicle exhaust fumes contain over 40 different substances that are listed as air pollutants most are invisible. The common perception of modern engines is that these have been removed or eliminated; the true picture is that they have simply been made smaller so that they are less obvious.

EHC Teknik has developed a range of exhaust filters and adaptors that fit directly to the tailpipe, so reducing considerably these pollutants. Everywhere an engine is running there is an exhaust gas problem. EHC filters can reduce this.
